Great Japanese food. Highlight for us was the cold udon from their summer menu.
Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. -

A catch up working lunch needs to be light, healthy, and quick.
Homaru at Newington fits that bill.
Starting out with a green tea, served in a gorgeous mug.
This was quickly followed by the Teriyaki Tofu Bento #54 ($17.50), the larger of the lunchtime boxes. Both lunchbox sizes come with miso soup, rice, salad and fruit but the larger also includes sushi and tempura.
It certainly looked impressive! The tempura was very crisp and included a piece of avocado, potato, sweet potato and carrot. The soy and wasabi dipping sauce went well. The teriyaki tofu had been deep fried in a batter then coated with a sweet-savoury sauce, and stir fried with red and green capsicum. It was very tasty. The vege sushi included one piece of avocado nigiri and one of pea shoots. The salad was crisp & fresh with spirals of beetroot for colour and a creamy dressing.
There was also a bowl of miso soup. This is a big meal, but doesn't leave you feeling heavy. Next time I would probably go for the smaller sized box, but I really enjoyed the sushi and the tempura.
Homaru is a good choice in the Silverwater/Olympic Park area for a quick & tasty lunch that is good value. -

Just had lunch here with my daughter, her choice. Well I am very impressed the food not only looked good it tasted great. The place is very neat and clean and tidy, in that Japanese kind of way. I had the teriyaki tofu box and it was delish, somehow they managed to infuse the flavour right through the tofu. My daughter had the seafood udon noodle, which looked beautiful, her only criticism was that she had to peal the prawns. The service was friendly and efficient and for lunch, very reasonably priced.

One of the best Japanese restaurant near Newington. Most dishes are good. Always eat their bento box. During lunch time expect to wait a bit longer. Portion is a bit too small for the price.
